Give Time for Piano If You Love It
I have been told by a good friend that one of his long-term objectives is to become a very capable or concert level pianist. He’s now a bit hopeless as he not seeing any progress with his ability. I was wondering and couldn’t wait for asking why he makes piano as his-long term goal, not the short-term one. As a piano player I personally have big passion for this music instrument and always learn piano and follow the piano lessons as much as I could. In my opinion, if you are a late starter then you should spare your time in a week, if you cannot make it every day, to learn piano from piano DVD or books for just one hour or two.
I shared some tips to him. In his forty-something, he admitted that in his age he wants to pick up the piano for fun. But first, I ensured him that he is not a late starter for the piano. Also I convinced him, that playing piano or acquiring a piano is not like professional sport that sets any physical requirements. He knows well how a piano works and he understands how to read sheet music. I came to realize that what he needs just a routine practice. This will make everything easier for him. A regular practice even though you make it one a week, it is much better than never learn piano at all.
As time goes by, he is now practicing routine to learn piano for one hour or two in a week with me. Our practice time is very flexible can be adjusted to his schedule or to his. We both know it does take time, but what counts even more is the quality of his practicing and significant progress. Now he is interested in playing more advanced music. I am sure he is capable of achieving his goal, and he often told me that being old is just about the number, his passion for piano is one thing which is taking into account.
